LG Manoj Sinha Marks Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations with Address

SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary, calling Bapu’s ideals a timeless source of inspiration for humanity. He emphasized that it is society’s collective responsibility to instill values of non-violence, truth, tolerance, and compassion in the younger generation.

Addressing the UT-level function commemorating Gandhi’s 156th birth anniversary, the LG said, “We live in an era where global challenges threaten peace and stability. Following the ideals of Pujya Bapu is essential to address contemporary challenges.”

Highlighting the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Shri Sinha noted, “The principles of selfless service (Sewa) and duty (Kartavya), central to Gandhiji’s life, continue to guide us in building a ‘Viksit Bharat’. Alongside economic growth, we are committed to creating a society grounded in moral strength, equity, and justice.”

The LG urged citizens to embrace Swadeshi and support products made by Self Help Groups and MSMEs. He added, “As we chart the nation’s future, remember your roots and India’s ageless spirit. Society and nature must coexist in harmony. Emphasis on Research & Development is crucial, and agriculture, industry, and services must work together to ensure a prosperous economy.”

Shri Sinha also extended felicitations on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri.

The event, organized by the Departments of School Education and Culture, marked the closing ceremony of Sewa Parv. The LG congratulated districts, schools, and volunteers for their outstanding participation and also honored members of the Gandhi Global Family, Sant Nirankari Mission, and Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign.

Among those present were Chief Secretary Shri Atal Dulloo; President of Gandhi Global Family, J&K, Padma Shri Dr. SP Varma; Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department Shri Shantmanu; Principal Secretary Culture Shri Brij Mohan Sharma; Secretary, School Education Shri Ram Niwas Sharma; along with senior officials, educators, and students.
