New Delhi: Actor Bobby Deol participated in the Vijayadashami celebrations organised by Lav Kush Ramlila in Delhi, symbolically shooting an arrow to burn the effigy of Ravan, marking the victory of good over evil.
The event drew large crowds of devotees and visitors, who gathered to witness the age-old tradition that concludes the nine-day Navratri festivities.
In the national capital, President Droupadi Murmu attended the Vijaya Dashmi event organised by the Shri Dharmic Leela Committee. Extending her greetings on Dussehra, she said, “Humankind thrives with the victory of good. When the demon of terrorism attacks humanity, it becomes essential to confront it. Operation Sindoor by the Indian forces symbolizes the triumph of humanity over the Ravan of terrorism. We bow to and thank every warrior protecting Bharat Mata.”
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also attended the celebrations at the PU Block Ramlila Ground in Pitampura. Across states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh, people celebrated the festival of truth over evil with traditional Ravan Dahan ceremonies.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his wishes for Vijayadashami, calling it a symbol of the victory of good and truth over evil and falsehood. In a post on X, he wrote, “Vijayadashami is a symbol of the victory of good and truth over evil and untruth. May this sacred occasion inspire everyone to progress on the path of courage, wisdom, and devotion. My warmest greetings of Vijayadashami to my family members across the country.”
Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over Ravan, giving rise to the tradition of burning Ravan’s effigies. Observed on the tenth day of the Hindu month of Ashvin, it marks the conclusion of Navratri. The festival typically falls in September or October on the Gregorian calendar and also signals the beginning of preparations for Diwali, which occurs twenty days later.
The burning of effigies of Ravan, Meghnad, and Kumbhkaran remains a cherished tradition in many parts of India, celebrated with immense fervor nationwide.
