Ahmedabad: In a notable leadership change, opener Shubman Gill has been appointed captain of India’s ODI team for the upcoming tour of Australia, replacing senior batter Rohit Sharma.
Both Rohit and Virat Kohli remain part of the 15-member squad announced by the BCCI, reflecting a gradual transition in leadership while retaining the core of experienced players. Shreyas Iyer will serve as vice-captain for the three-match series.
Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the ODIs to manage his workload, while in-form left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal returns to the 50-over setup following impressive performances in T20Is.
The ODI series will be played in Sydney, Adelaide, and Melbourne from October 19 to 25, followed by a five-match T20 series.
