J&K ACB Arrests Head Constable Mahroof Ahmed for Demanding Bribe
The Jammu & Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Head Constable Mahroof Ahmed, posted at Police Station Mahore, District Reasi, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹8,000.
The complainant alleged that after being detained in a case, he was granted interim bail by the Hon’ble Court on 25.09.2025, with the condition to report daily at PS Mahore between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. During this period, HC Mahroof Ahmed allegedly harassed the complainant, detained him beyond the prescribed hours, and demanded ₹8,000 for his timely release. The bribe was paid on 01.10.2025 within the police station premises.
Two days later, the accused reportedly threatened the complainant and his associate, demanding an additional ₹12,000 for the release of their tractor and allowing their timely release, threatening PSA (Public Safety Act) action if unpaid. The amount was later negotiated to ₹8,000.
Refusing to pay further, the complainant approached the ACB. Following verification, FIR No. 02/2025 under Section 7 of the PC Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) was registered at ACB Udhampur. A trap team, led by a Gazetted Officer, apprehended the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹8,000 in the presence of independent witnesses.
Further investigation is ongoing.
