NIA Chargesheets Four, Including Khalistani Operatives, in Grenade Attack on Ex-Punjab Minister’s House
New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against four individuals, including Khalistani operatives, for their alleged role in the grenade attack on former Punjab minister and BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia’s residence in Jalandhar, officials said on Sunday.
The chargesheet, submitted in a Chandigarh court on Saturday, names two arrested accused — Saidul Ameen of Amroha (Uttar Pradesh) and Abhijot Jangra of Kurukshetra (Haryana) — along with two absconders, Kulbir Singh Sidhu of Yamunanagar and Manish alias Kaka Rana of Karnal, both from Haryana.
The attack took place on the night of April 7, 2025, with the NIA taking over the investigation on April 12.
According to the NIA, Sidhu, an operative of the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), along with his associate Manish, formed a terror module to target prominent Punjab leaders, spread fear among the public, and raise funds for the BKI through extortion.
Manish later recruited Ameen, who allegedly carried out the grenade attack. The grenade was supplied by Sidhu, while Jangra provided the funds, the agency said.
Sidhu also circulated a poster after the attack, claiming responsibility for the conspiracy with Manish, the NIA added.
A Red Corner Notice has been issued against Sidhu, who carries a ₹10 lakh reward for information leading to his arrest.
Sidhu was earlier chargesheeted by the NIA in connection with the targeted killing of VHP leader Vikas Prabhakar in April 2024.
The agency said it continues efforts to locate and apprehend the absconding accused and identify other BKI members active in India.
