Chrome Users Alerted About Security Risks Amid AI Integration

Google Chrome’s security has come under scrutiny, especially as AI features are being integrated into the browser. The Indian government has stepped in to inform users about the latest vulnerabilities.

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) issued a high-severity security bulletin on October 3, 2025, warning millions of Chrome users on Windows, macOS, and Linux systems about potential risks.

What’s the Issue?

According to the bulletin, “Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Chrome which could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system.”

Specifically, the vulnerabilities include:

  • Heap buffer overflow in WebGPU and Video
  • Side-channel information leakage in Storage and Tab
  • Inappropriate implementation in Media, Omnibox, and Storage
  • Out-of-bounds read in Media
  • Off-by-one error in V8
  • Use-after-free issues in V8

A remote attacker could exploit these flaws by tricking users into visiting a maliciously crafted web page, potentially compromising their systems.

Who Is Affected?

Users running the following versions of Chrome are at risk:

  • Linux: Versions prior to 141.0.7390.54
  • Windows & macOS: Versions prior to 141.0.7390.54/55

What Should Users Do?

All Chrome users should immediately update their browser to the latest version. To do this:

  1. Click the three-dot menu in Chrome
  2. Go to Settings → About Chrome
  3. Update to the latest version

Google has detailed the security fixes included in the stable channel update.

Meanwhile, Chrome continues to roll out AI-powered features, including the new agentic AI capabilities through Gemini, which are gradually reaching users.
