Srinagar: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday announced its constituency in-charges for South Kashmir, Ganderbal, and Bandipora districts.
According to sources, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has appointed senior leaders to these roles to bolster the party’s grassroots presence ahead of the upcoming Panchayat and local body elections.
For Anantnag and surrounding areas, the party has named Abdul Rehman Veeri (Anantnag East, Shangus), Dr. Mehboob Beg (Anantnag), Adv. Sheikh Javed (Anantnag West), Dr. Shabir Siddiqi (Pahalgam), Iltija Mufti (Srigufwara, Bijbehara), Chowdhary Talib (Kokernag-ST), and Mohd Ashraf Malik (Dooru).
In Kulgam district, Mohd Sartaj Madani (Devsar) and Gulzar Ahmad Dar (DH Pora) have been nominated. The PDP has retained Zahoor Ahmad Mir (Pampore), Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra (Pulwama), and Rafiq Ahmad Naik (Tral) as constituency in-charges.
For Shopian, Ajaz Ahmad Mir (Zainapora, Wachi) and Raja Waheed (Shopian) will serve as in-charges. Ganderbal and Kangan will be overseen by Bashir Ahmad Mir and Jamaat Ali Shaheen, respectively.
Notably, PDP ideologue and strategist Naeem Akther has returned to active politics, taking up the constituency in-charge role for Bandipora. Former MLC Yasir Reshi, who contested the 2024 Assembly elections under the Awami Ittehad Party led by Er. Rashid, has been appointed for the Sonawari seat. Adv. Asif Iqbal Chowdhary has been named constituency in-charge for Rajouri.
However, the absence of several senior figures—including Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Yawar Bandey, and Gaffar Sofi—has caught the attention of political observers.
