Satish Sharma reviews developmental works, essential supplies, and green energy initiatives in Kulgam
KULGAM: Minister Satish Sharma, overseeing Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science & Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and ARI & Trainings, and also Minister-in-charge for Kulgam district, today visited the district and chaired a detailed review meeting at the Mini Secretariat.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Education, Health & Social Welfare and MLA D.H Pora, Sakeena Itoo; MLAs M.Y. Tarigami (Kulgam) and Peerzada Feroz Ahmad Shah (Devsar); Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Athar Amir Khan; Director Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Owais Ahmed; along with directors, superintending engineers, executive engineers, and other district officials.


Highlighting the need for better coordination and timely implementation, the Minister directed officials to ensure the completion of projects nearing final stages and dedicate them to the public promptly. He emphasized accelerating solar rooftop installations on shrines and government buildings, reinforcing the government’s focus on green energy, sustainability, and organic development across sectors.
Minister Sharma also reviewed sports infrastructure, urging improvements to engage youth in sports and recreational activities. While assessing winter preparedness, he took stock of essential supplies and directed KPDCL to ensure uninterrupted power supply, with adequate buffer stock of transformers and transformer oil to meet seasonal demands.
Minister Sakeena Itoo called for intensified enforcement against the sale of spurious fertilizers and pesticides and stressed the need to commence work on all approved roads before winter.
During discussions, MLAs requested regular and quality water supply, early completion of the Brazloo Bridge for better connectivity, expansion of AAY and BPL ration cards, and the establishment of a Controlled Atmosphere (CA) store for crop preservation.
MLA M.Y. Tarigami urged SKUAST-K and the Horticulture Department to take immediate action against leaf miner infestation to prevent crop losses. Responding, Minister Sharma instructed departments to provide timely assistance, technical guidance, and preventive support to affected farmers.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive development, he affirmed that all people-centric schemes will be implemented effectively with focus on green energy, organic growth, and transparency.
Deputy Commissioner Athar Aamir Khan presented a detailed overview of the district’s developmental profile, highlighting the implementation status of schemes such as District Capex, PMAY-U, PMAY-G, Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), ISSS, RDSS, PM Surya Ghar, and other flagship initiatives. He also noted the impact of recent floods caused by the Veshow River, resulting in extensive damage to agricultural and horticultural crops, and briefed on measures for restoring damaged roads and bridges.
