Srinagar: With the onset of winter, the Ministry of Power (MoP) has allocated over 870 megawatts (MW) of electricity to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh from the unallocated quota of Central Generating Stations (CGSs) in the northern region.

Official documents reveal that the MoP has directed the concerned authorities to provide Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh with 44 percent (877.42 MW) of the unallocated CGS quota starting October 1, 2025.

Sources said that for the winter months of 2025-26, the MoP has set the allocation for Jammu and Kashmir as follows: 44 percent of the unallocated CGS quota for October 2025, 49 percent for November 2025, 54 percent from December 2025 to February 2026, and 44 percent for March 2026.

“The Central Electricity Authority has revised power allocations from the unallocated CGS quota in the northern region, considering the increased demand from northern states during the winter season. The NRPC has been requested to implement these allocations after accounting for specific allocations, effective from October 1, 2025,” the MoP stated.

Additionally, Jammu and Kashmir will receive a specific allocation of 41 MW from RAPS-C and 36 MW (15 percent of the unallocated share from Uri-II) for the winter months each year.

Regarding the remaining unallocated pool of 1,790.66 MW (excluding RAPP-B), the MoP stated that Jammu and Kashmir will receive 1,056.49 MW from December 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026, unless modified otherwise.
