Jammu: Police on Wednesday arrested a man accused of desecrating the Guru Granth Sahib in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, officials said.
The accused, identified as Manjit Singh alias Billa from Koulpur village in Ramgarh, allegedly poured inflammable oil on the holy scripture and set it on fire late Tuesday night, triggering widespread protests by members of the Sikh community, a police officer said.
“An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of law, and the accused has been taken into custody. Further investigation is in progress,” the officer added.
