Srinagar: Security forces have launched a large-scale search operation in the forests of Kokernag area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district to hunt down terrorists, officials said on Wednesday.
The operation began two days ago in the Ahlan Gadole area following intelligence inputs suggesting the presence of a group of terrorists, the officials added.
Ahlan Gadole has emerged as a new hotspot of militant activity in Kashmir, having witnessed two major encounters — one in August last year and another in September 2023.
In last year’s encounters, two soldiers and a civilian were killed in a fierce gunfight, while four security personnel, including two Army officers and a police officer, lost their lives during an operation in the dense forests.
The search operation was still underway when reports last came in, officials said.
