Srinagar: Two Army soldiers have gone out of contact in the upper reaches of Kokernag in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district during an ongoing anti-terror operation, official sources said on Wednesday.

A massive search operation has been launched in the dense forest area to locate the missing personnel. Officials suspect that the soldiers may have lost communication due to the harsh weather conditions that have prevailed over the past two days.

“The duo might have been separated from their team because of poor visibility and the challenging terrain following recent snowfall,” sources said.

The soldiers were part of a small unit conducting a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the area on Tuesday. Since then, contact with them has not been re-established.

Helicopters have been deployed to assist the ground troops in the search mission, while security forces continue to comb the forested region to trace the missing soldiers.

Meanwhile, defence officials stated that no official report confirming the soldiers as missing has been received so far.
