Jammu: Police arrested three gangsters following a brief encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Wednesday, officials said.

The trio was travelling on a motorcycle when a police team signaled them to stop for checking in the Lakhanpur area, they added.

Instead of complying, the accused—who were coming from the Punjab border—opened fire and tried to flee. In response, police fired warning shots and gave chase. During the pursuit, the motorcycle skidded off the road and crashed into an electricity pole near the Kidian Ghadiyal bridge, injuring the suspects, officials said.

All three were taken into custody and shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kathua. One of the arrested men, identified as Murad Ali, is wanted in four separate cases in the district, police said.
