JMC intensifies drive against illegal constructions, encroachments and defacement in Jammu

JAMMU: Acting on the directions of the Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), and under the direct supervision of the Joint Commissioner (R&E) and Deputy Commissioners (North/South), the Enforcement Wing of JMC today carried out a comprehensive anti-encroachment and anti-defacement drive across multiple areas of the city.

During the operation, the enforcement team demolished four illegal shutters—two each in Rehari Colony and Trikuta Nagar—that had been constructed in violation of approved building plans and municipal norms. In addition, an unauthorized construction in the Talab Tillo area was also demolished, reaffirming JMC’s zero-tolerance stance towards illegal building activities.

Simultaneously, a special drive was launched to clear encroachments and remove unauthorized vending carts (rehris) from key routes in Trikuta Nagar and Roop Nagar to ensure smooth vehicular movement and pedestrian safety.

An extensive anti-defacement campaign was also conducted along the stretch from Railway Station Road to Trikuta Nagar Bagad Mandi. The team removed unauthorized posters, banners, and hoardings, thereby enhancing the city’s visual appeal and public hygiene.

Reinforcing the enforcement efforts, the Commissioner JMC personally inspected the Trikuta Nagar Bagad Mandi area to oversee the removal of encroachments from roads and by-lanes, ensuring direct action against illegal obstructions.

The JMC has once again urged citizens to strictly follow approved building plans, avoid converting residential properties for commercial use, and refrain from encroaching upon public land. The Corporation reiterated that such enforcement drives will continue regularly to promote systematic urban growth and maintain the aesthetic beauty of Jammu city.
