Srinagar: The search operation to locate and rescue two missing soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district entered its third day on Thursday, officials said.
They added that dense forests, rugged terrain, and bad weather continue to impede the rescue efforts.
The missing personnel, both commandos from an elite Para unit, lost contact during a combing operation in the Kokernag area on Tuesday. The operation had been launched two days earlier in the Ahlan Gadole region following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists, officials said.
According to them, the soldiers went missing after their communication link was disrupted. Helicopters have been deployed for aerial surveillance to trace the commandos.
The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the Army said the team was caught in a severe snowstorm on Monday night.
“On the intervening night of October 6 and 7, an operational team in the Kishtwar range faced a severe snowstorm and whiteout conditions in the mountains of South Kashmir. Since then, two soldiers have been out of communication,” the Chinar Corps said in a post on X on Wednesday.
“Intense search and rescue efforts are underway but remain hampered by adverse weather conditions,” it added.
