Srinagar: Two advocates and another individual have been arrested in Srinagar in connection with a major cyber fraud case linked to a fake stock trading app and multiple WhatsApp groups.

The arrests were carried out by the Gurgaon Cyber Police, and the accused were presented before the City Judge/JMFC Srinagar, who granted their transit remand for further investigation in Haryana.

The case is registered under FIR No. 325, dated September 6, 2025, at Cyber West Police Station, Palam Vihar, Gurgaon, under Sections 318(8), 319, and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. According to the complaint filed by Ravi Dutt Sharma, he was duped of over ₹1.9 crore after being added to a WhatsApp group that promoted a stock investment scheme promising high returns. The investments were made through a fake trading app named “Stocks Nuama Pro.” When the complainant attempted to withdraw his funds, he was repeatedly asked to pay additional charges, effectively blocking his access.

The arrested accused have been identified as Advocate Shahnawaz Akhtar, resident of Irfan Colony, Natipora, Srinagar, alleged to be the prime conspirator; Advocate Suhale Ashraf, resident of Khummoh, Lasjan, Srinagar, accused of facilitating fraudulent transactions worth over ₹1.22 crore; and Rameez Ahmad Khan, resident of Arath, Budgam, who allegedly managed the transfer and diversion of the defrauded funds.

Court documents suggest that the trio may be involved in defrauding several other victims. After examining the police application, the court found adequate grounds to authorize their transit remand to Gurgaon, directing police to continue the investigation while ensuring the safety and lawful custody of the accused during transfer.
