Jammu: BJP national general secretary and Jammu and Kashmir in-charge Tarun Chugh on Thursday urged the National Conference (NC) to release its first-year performance report, accusing the party of failing to deliver on its election promises made during the Assembly polls.
Chugh said that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had approved 95 per cent of the decisions taken by the NC-led government under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and alleged that the party was raising the “dual power” issue only to distract the public from its governance failures.
Speaking to reporters after a party meeting in Jammu — held to discuss the upcoming Assembly bypolls in Budgam and Nagrota, and the Rajya Sabha elections for four Union Territory seats — Chugh said the BJP would fight both contests “with full strength.” The meeting was attended by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, J&K BJP president Sat Sharma, and other senior leaders.
“My request to the Chief Minister is to make public his government’s report card as it completes its first year in office next week. The people have the right to know which election promises have been fulfilled,” Chugh said.
He added that the public in Jammu and Kashmir was seeking accountability from the government.
Responding to NC leaders’ remarks that the dual-power system was hampering governance and that statehood should be restored, Chugh accused Abdullah of heading a “government of broken promises.”
“They have completed 20 per cent of their five-year term and already forgotten the commitments made to the people,” he said.
Chugh asserted that nearly all cabinet decisions taken in the public interest had been cleared by the LG. “Not a single pro-people decision was blocked. Instead of blaming others, the government should focus on real issues like tourism, which has suffered badly after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack,” he said.
He further accused both the NC and the PDP of resorting to diversionary politics to mislead the public.
Chugh concluded by stressing that unlike other “family-run parties,” the BJP was “driven by dedicated activists committed to public service.”
