SRINAGAR: In a continued crackdown on the sale of unsafe and substandard food items, the Food Safety Department intensified its enforcement drive in Srinagar. A team of Food Safety Officers, led by the Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety Srinagar, inspected a snack manufacturing unit operating from Abhanshah, HMT.
During the inspection, officials discovered that the unit was functioning without a valid licence and in unhygienic conditions. Approximately five quintals of namkeen snacks, including katlam and finni, were seized on-site, and samples were collected for detailed laboratory analysis.
Following the inspection, the premises were sealed immediately, and manufacturing activities were suspended. The department will file a complaint under the relevant provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Food Safety and Standards Rules and Regulations, 2011, before the competent court.
Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, Smitha Sethi, instructed all food business operators to adhere strictly to the Food Safety and Standards Act and maintain proper hygiene and valid licences. She warned that strict legal action will be taken against violators.
The department also urged consumers to stay alert and report any suspected food safety violations by calling the toll-free helpline 104.
