DC Rajouri chairs NCORD meeting; calls for multi-pronged strategy to curb drug menace
RAJOURI: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, today chaired a meeting of the District-level NCORD Committee in the Conference Hall of the DC Office to review ongoing measures aimed at combating drug abuse and trafficking in the district.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for a comprehensive and coordinated strategy to tackle the growing threat of narcotics. He directed officials to enhance surveillance and monitoring mechanisms, including the installation of CCTV cameras at vulnerable locations to track suspicious activities.
The DC emphasized the training of doctors and healthcare professionals to effectively manage drug abuse cases, ensuring timely counselling and rehabilitation support for affected individuals.
Highlighting the importance of legal action, he instructed for strict enforcement of Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to deal firmly with organised drug-related crimes.
To strengthen community participation, the DC called for the formation of village-level committees, particularly in areas along the Line of Control (LoC), to function as both awareness and vigilance groups. These committees will coordinate closely with the administration and police to identify and report suspicious activities linked to drug peddling.
Underscoring the importance of preventive and awareness-based initiatives, the Deputy Commissioner urged officers to promote sports and youth engagement programmes as healthy alternatives to drug abuse. He also advised involving religious leaders and community influencers to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug addiction.
Additionally, the DC directed for regular inspections of courier services to prevent their misuse for transporting narcotics.
The meeting was attended by ADC Chander Prakash, ACP Sheraz Chouhan, ACD Auqil Naveed, DSWO Abdul Raheem, ARTO, and other district and sectoral officers. ADCs of Kalakote, Kotranka, Nowshera, and Sunderbani, besides SDM Thanamandi, joined the meeting virtually.
