New Delhi: The Congress on Friday took a sharp dig at the Modi government, saying that former US President Donald Trump has now “hit a half-century” with his repeated claim of having stopped Operation Sindoor using trade and tariffs as his “brahmastra,” and quipped that it “won’t be long before he reaches a century.”
Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent all of Thursday engaging with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and showering “message after message of praise and admiration” on Trump. “He did not, of course, forget to speak to the man who unleashed genocide on Gaza — Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu — during this time,” Ramesh added in a post on X.
Ramesh noted that during Trump’s meeting with Finnish President Alexander Stubb on Thursday, the former US President “reached the half-century mark” on his claim of stopping Operation Sindoor through trade and tariff measures. “In this, President Trump has been consistent, insistent, and persistent. It won’t be long before he scores a century,” he said.
The Congress leader also shared a video clip of Trump reiterating his claim that he had halted an India-Pakistan conflict.
Last month, addressing world leaders at the UN, Trump had once again asserted that he stopped hostilities between India and Pakistan — a claim India has repeatedly refuted, maintaining that the ceasefire understanding was reached directly between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the two countries.
