BUDGAM: Commissioner Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Vikramjit Singh, today inaugurated a three-day Buyer-Seller Meet at Budgam aimed at promoting traditional handicrafts and strengthening market linkages for local artisans and producers.

The event is being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO) and sponsored by the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, under the National Handicraft Development Programme (NHDP). It forms part of the ongoing efforts to support and revitalize Jammu and Kashmir’s rich handicraft legacy.

The inauguration was attended by Managing Director, JKTPO, Sudershan Kumar; Director, NIFT; General Manager, JKTPO; AD Handicrafts, DCH, and other senior district officers.

Speaking on the occasion, Vikramjit Singh said the Buyer-Seller Meet provides a vital platform for artisans to showcase their craftsmanship and establish sustainable business relationships with buyers. He emphasized that such initiatives not only help preserve traditional art forms but also contribute to the economic empowerment of the artisan community and the promotion of J&K’s cultural heritage.

Around 50 artisans from different regions are participating in the event, exhibiting a diverse range of handmade GI-tagged products including Pashmina, Kani shawls, Sozni embroidery, Paper Mache, Chain Stitch, Basohli paintings, Crewelwork, and more. The event has drawn 40 national buying houses representing various international markets, offering them a unique opportunity to interact directly with artisans and explore authentic, high-quality handcrafted products.

The meet is expected to result in significant business deals and high-level engagement, fostering productive discussions and collaborations among participants. The strong response underscores the event’s importance in connecting stakeholders, driving economic activity, and creating new business opportunities in the region’s vibrant handicraft and textile sector.
