Dating apps are stepping up their safety game by introducing new features to protect users and flag potentially dangerous profiles.

Tinder, one of the most popular dating platforms, has launched a new Face Check feature in India this week — a tool designed to verify user authenticity. With this feature, users are asked to record a short selfie video, which is then compared with their uploaded profile photos. If both match, the profile earns a verified badge, signaling that the person is real.

Tackling Fake Profiles: Will It Be Enough?

Dating apps have long been hotspots for fake profiles and AI-generated scammers. What once started as a platform for genuine connections has increasingly become a playground for digital fraudsters. The Face Check feature aims to restore trust, but given the sophistication of AI photo and video editing tools, it may still face challenges.

Tinder says the move is part of its broader effort to curb scams, bots, and impersonations. The app may even ask for official ID verification to ensure authenticity. Additionally, Tinder plans to warn users if they receive suspicious or offensive messages, while also allowing users to report profiles that make them uncomfortable.

These safety measures, though overdue, are a step in the right direction. As deepfakes and digital forgery become more advanced, dating platforms need stronger verification systems to stay ahead of scammers.

While Tinder hasn’t disclosed full details about how foolproof its verification process is, the global rollout suggests users are responding positively. What began as a trend on professional and social networking sites has now become an essential safeguard for dating apps — where trust and authenticity matter most.
