DC Jammu Dr. Rakesh Minhas interacts with GMC, GDC faculty and students; stresses on collective resolve for nation-building

JAMMU: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, today held an interactive session with the faculty and students of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and Government Dental College during his visit to the campus.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Minhas urged students to believe in the power of positive change, asserting that “true progress begins when citizens dedicate themselves to the cause of nation-building.” He called upon the youth to play an active role in the betterment of Jammu and the nation, emphasizing that every individual’s contribution counts in driving collective progress.

Highlighting the importance of youth empowerment and the demographic dividend, the Deputy Commissioner spoke about various government initiatives aimed at enabling young citizens to become catalysts of transformation. “Contribution to nation-building has no age limit,” he remarked, encouraging students to overcome hesitation and take responsibility for shaping a better and stronger future.

Dr. Minhas underscored the need for constructive thinking, stating, “Instead of channeling negative emotions, let us all be part of the solution. Surety of implementation, not severity of punishment, improves the system.”

During the interactive session, he responded to queries from students, assuring them that adequate safeguards are in place to ensure the safety and welfare of health professionals. He stressed that strict enforcement of law is necessary to prevent violence against medical practitioners while urging doctors to uphold empathy and compassion in patient care.

Offering career guidance, Dr. Minhas encouraged the young medicos to excel in their chosen fields and serve with dedication. He also assured that genuine concerns raised by students regarding campus security and sports infrastructure would be addressed promptly.

Appreciating the GMC administration and faculty, the Deputy Commissioner lauded their commitment to fostering open dialogue between the administration and academia, which, he said, leads to constructive solutions and meaningful outcomes. He assured that all suggestions and issues would be taken up for deliberation at appropriate levels.

Earlier, Principal GMC Jammu, Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, welcomed the Deputy Commissioner and presented the institution’s vision and academic goals. He briefed about the evolution of GMC Jammu, which now operates ten hospitals under its ambit, and apprised the DC about administrative matters, security needs, and academic infrastructure.

The session concluded with an open exchange of ideas, where students expressed enthusiasm to participate in developmental and social initiatives across the district.
