DC Rajouri underscores initiatives for women empowerment, safety on International Girl Child Day

RAJOURI: The Social Welfare Department, in collaboration with the District Administration Rajouri, celebrated International Girl Child Day with great enthusiasm at Dak Bungalow, Rajouri. Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, graced the event as the Chief Guest.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner extended greetings to all women and girls on this special occasion and commended their outstanding contributions across various fields. He highlighted that Dr. Ayushi Sudan became the first woman IAS officer from Rajouri, while this year, Iram Choudhary brought pride to the district by becoming its first IFS officer.

Emphasizing the district’s commitment to women empowerment and gender equality, the DC outlined several key initiatives implemented by the administration. These include the upgradation of the JayShree Library under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, sponsorship programs for children’s education, self-defence training sessions for girl students, and the establishment of Sexual Harassment Committees in all government offices across the district.

He also urged young girls to remain vigilant against the menace of drug abuse and to exercise caution while using mobile phones, warning of potential risks such as photo misuse and online exploitation. The DC further announced that steps would be taken to reserve seats for women in public transport to enhance their safety and convenience.

Students from various educational institutions presented inspiring skits and speeches on the theme “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis.”

The event concluded with the felicitation of girl achievers who excelled in fields such as education, sports, and social service. District Social Welfare Officer Abdul Raheem delivered the vote of thanks.

Among those present were DySP Satish Sharma, DEPO, DYSSO, and other district and sectoral officers.
