Workshop on Airway Management and Trauma Resuscitation Held at GMC Srinagar

SRINAGAR,: The Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care, Pain and Palliative Care Medicine, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, today organized a CME-cum-Workshop on “Airway Management in A&E Bay” and “Parallel Resuscitative Priorities of Trauma Care.”

Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Addressing the participants, Dr. Abid Rasheed emphasized that emergency and critical care medicine form the backbone of every modern healthcare system. He highlighted the indispensable role of skill-based training in airway management and trauma resuscitation, noting that timely interventions, effective team coordination, and adherence to evidence-based protocols are vital for improving patient outcomes.

Commending the department’s efforts toward medical excellence, the Secretary urged doctors to uphold a compassionate, holistic, and patient-centered approach in their service to humanity.

Principal, GMC Srinagar, Dr. Iffat Hassan, described the CME as “the need of the hour,” underscoring the importance of continuous medical education to enhance institutional preparedness and strengthen the emergency and trauma care ecosystem.

Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Hina Bashir Shah, in her address, emphasized that structured and regular training in airway management and resuscitation is essential for all clinicians involved in acute and critical care practice.

Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, Principal, GMC Anantnag, lauded the contributions of anesthesiologists, calling them “the backbone of every medical institution” and key members of multidisciplinary emergency response teams.

Organizing Secretary, Dr. Mohammad Ommid, appreciated the collective efforts of the faculty, residents, and technical staff whose dedication and teamwork ensured the success of the event. Co-Organizing Secretary, Dr. Sifna Tahir, shared that the workshop aimed to enhance participants’ clinical judgment, procedural expertise, and confidence in handling airway emergencies and trauma resuscitation in real-world settings.

Eminent experts including Dr. Pankaj Kundra (HOD Anesthesia, JIPMER Pondicherry), Dr. Kajal Jain (HOD Anaesthesia, PGIMER Chandigarh), Prof. Dr. Hina Bashir Shah (HOD Anaesthesia, GMC Srinagar), Dr. Abraq Asma (Associate Professor, HIMSR Delhi), Dr. Nazia Nazir (HOD Anaesthesia, GIMS Noida), Prof. Jeetendra Kaur and Prof. Suman Arora (PGIMER Chandigarh), along with senior faculty members of GMC Srinagar, attended and addressed the workshop.

The scientific sessions also featured lectures by Dr. Irshad Misgar, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, and Dr. Tariq Tantray, DM Cardiac Anaesthesia, on topics including oxygenation strategies, airway assessment in trauma, laryngotracheal injuries, inhalational burns, and management of difficult airways.

The event concluded with a hands-on workshop, coordinated by Dr. Yousha Muneeb Geelani and Dr. Qazi Afaan Zahoor, comprising seven skill stations that provided practical training in airway sonography and other critical procedures.
