Srinagar: National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Sunday welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, expressing hope that it would open the door to lasting peace after two years of “heartbreaking” conflict.
“This is a significant and much-needed step. I sincerely hope it brings immediate and sustained humanitarian relief to the people of Gaza, who have endured immense suffering,” Abdullah said in a statement.
He urged all parties to honour and fully implement the ceasefire terms, stressing that genuine peace can only be achieved through “commitment, compassion, and dialogue.”
“It is crucial that this truce develops into a permanent ceasefire. Let it mark the beginning of a just, comprehensive, and enduring resolution to the Palestinian issue—one rooted in human dignity, justice, and international law,” he added.
Calling for urgent efforts to expand humanitarian aid, Abdullah emphasized the global responsibility to help the war-affected population rebuild their lives and restore hope.
“Now is the moment to show solidarity and humanity. The world must come together to provide aid, rebuild communities, and work towards a peaceful and dignified future for everyone in the region,” he said.
The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir also prayed for peace and healing, expressing optimism that the ceasefire would serve as a turning point toward a more stable and peaceful Middle East.
