Jammu: Two brothers were arrested in Punjab on Monday for allegedly murdering a man over a personal dispute on the outskirts of Jammu city, officials said.

Police said the incident took place on October 9 at Simbal Camp in the Miran Sahib area, where Narinder Singh was attacked by Tanveer Singh alias Kalu and Bavneet Singh alias Babby, along with their family members, leading to his death.

The arrests were made within hours of the crime, reflecting the police’s swift action and commitment to public safety, officials added.

Following a complaint filed by the victim’s wife, Harbhajan Kaur, an FIR was registered at Miran Sahib Police Station for attempt to murder, wrongful restraint, and rioting. The charges were later amended to include Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after Narinder was declared brought dead at Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu.

After completing medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family for last rites, while police launched a manhunt to track down the accused.

Acting on specific intelligence, a police team conducted multiple raids across Jammu and neighbouring districts before apprehending Tanveer and Bavneet in Punjab.

“The accused are in police custody for further interrogation. The investigation team is also looking into the role of other family members who may have assisted in the crime,” a police official said.
