Jammu: Newly appointed Managing Director (MD) of the Jammu and Kashmir Women’s Development Corporation (JKWDC), Purnima Mittal, today called on the Minister for Social Welfare, Education, Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, and briefed her on the Corporation’s ongoing schemes, programmes, and new initiatives aimed at empowering women and fostering self-reliance across the Union Territory.
During the meeting, the MD presented a comprehensive overview of JKWDC’s activities, including various credit-linked schemes, skill development initiatives, and entrepreneurship support programmes implemented in collaboration with national financial institutions. She informed the Minister about the efforts being made to provide financial assistance and training to women from economically weaker and underprivileged sections, particularly those living in rural and remote areas.
The Minister appreciated the Corporation’s efforts towards the socio-economic upliftment of women and underscored the need for greater outreach, transparency, and convergence with other government departments to ensure that benefits effectively reach the intended beneficiaries. She also stressed the importance of promoting awareness and digital literacy among women entrepreneurs to help them tap into emerging opportunities.
Minister Itoo further directed the MD to work on future strategies for expanding the Corporation’s impact through better coordination, innovative programmes, and partnerships with grassroots institutions.
The MD assured the Minister of JKWDC’s continued commitment to inclusive development and gender equality, reaffirming the Corporation’s resolve to strengthen initiatives that empower women to become self-sufficient and active contributors to the economy.
