New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on his birth anniversary, recalling the former President and eminent scientist as a visionary who inspired the nation to dream big.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Remembering Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Ji on his birth anniversary. He is remembered as a visionary who ignited young minds and inspired our nation to dream big. His life reminds us that humility and hard work are vital for success. May we continue to build the India he envisioned — an India that is strong, self-reliant, and compassionate.”

Fondly known as the “Missile Man of India,” Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam (1931–2015) served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. Born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, into a modest family, Kalam rose to prominence through perseverance and dedication.

As Project Director at ISRO, he led the development of India’s first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III), which successfully deployed the Rohini satellite in 1980 — marking India’s entry into the elite Space Club. He also played a pivotal role in advancing the country’s missile programmes, including the development of AGNI and PRITHVI missiles.

Beyond his scientific achievements, Dr. Kalam was deeply committed to inspiring young minds. His books — “Wings of Fire,” “Ignited Minds,” and “India 2020” — continue to motivate generations to dream big and work toward building a stronger, progressive India.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam passed away on July 27, 2015, leaving behind a legacy of vision, humility, and inspiration.
