Kulgam: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Kulgam Police on Wednesday attached the property of a detained drug peddler and supplier under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to a police statement, the property belongs to Ghulam Rasool Dar, son of Late Abdul Rehman Dar, a resident of Vidoe Mishipora, Police Station Qaimoh. The attachment was carried out under the provisions of Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Dar is involved in FIR No. 62/2021 registered under Sections 8/15-29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Qaimoh, in which 520 kilograms of poppy straw were recovered. He is currently detained under the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in NDPS Act (PIT-NDPS) and lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
The attached property, valued at approximately ₹61 lakh, was identified as illegally acquired through proceeds of narcotics trafficking. The attachment order was executed by a police team in the presence of local residents and an executive magistrate, following a detailed investigation by Police Station Qaimoh.
Police said the action is part of an ongoing drive to dismantle drug networks and choke the financial sources of narcotics trade in the district.
SSP Kulgam, Shri Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS), reaffirmed the police’s commitment to eliminate the drug menace from society. He said strict action, including the attachment of properties derived from drug money, will continue to disrupt the supply chain and safeguard youth from substance abuse.
Local residents have lauded the efforts of Kulgam Police for taking firm action against drug traffickers and protecting the community from the growing drug problem.
Police have urged the public to cooperate by sharing information on drug peddlers or related activities, assuring that the identity of informants will remain confidential.
