Kulgam: Continuing its intensified drive against drug trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir, the Kulgam Police arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substances from his possession during a naka checking operation at Khudwani Bypass, officials said on Thursday.
In a statement, a police spokesperson said that a team from Police Station Qaimoh had set up a checkpoint to frisk suspicious persons and vehicles at Khudwani Bypass. During the operation, a man identified as Talib Hussain Sheikh, son of Khurshid Hussain Sheikh and a resident of KG Raina, Wanpoh, was found behaving suspiciously while carrying a bag. Upon search, police recovered 30 grams of Charas and 500 grams of a cannabis-like substance from his possession. He was immediately arrested.
A case under FIR No. 79/2025 U/S 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Qaimoh, and further investigation is underway.
Police reiterated that drug peddlers are attempting to destroy the lives of innocent people, especially the youth, by promoting drug abuse in society. The general public has once again been urged to extend full cooperation to Kulgam Police in their ongoing campaign against the drug menace in the district.
