LG Manoj Sinha Inaugurates Veshaw Literary Festival at Kulgam

Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday inaugurated the Veshaw Literary Festival at Kulgam through video conferencing, emphasizing the growing engagement of Jammu and Kashmir’s youth with the nation’s history, values, and aspirations.

“Youth of Jammu and Kashmir are now deeply engaging with the country’s history, values, and aspirations. They are forging bonds with diversity, heritage, and fostering a shared cultural identity for nation-building,” the Lieutenant Governor said in his address.

The two-day literary festival celebrates literature by bringing together writers, artists, and readers to share ideas, discuss books, and promote a wide range of creative and literary works. It also aims to highlight the region’s unique spirituality and cultural richness while providing a platform for women writers and young authors to showcase their talent.

“The festival will not only explore the region’s spiritual and cultural significance but also foster appreciation for literature and strengthen community bonds,” LG Sinha added.

The Lieutenant Governor noted that the works of prominent literary figures from Jammu and Kashmir have inspired generations. “Kulgam stands as a testament to a rich spiritual and intellectual tradition. It is a confluence of nature, spirituality, culture, and literature, making this sacred land an important part of Jammu and Kashmir’s heritage,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of creating opportunities for young talent, the LG said that nurturing creativity will ensure that literature continues to serve as a mirror reflecting societal and global transformations.

“Science, spirituality, and literature are the three powerful forces that shape a progressive and vibrant society. Writers, thinkers, and poets must promote our literary, scientific, and spiritual heritage, enrich folk traditions, and strengthen social harmony. They should also shed light on pressing public issues and become the voice of the marginalized,” he said.

Calling upon writers and poets to counter false narratives about Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor urged them to introduce the younger generation to the brighter reality and inspire them with new perspectives.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Shri Mohd Afzal Parray, Chairman, District Development Council Kulgam; Shri Anshul Garg, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Shri Javid Iqbal Matoo, DIG SKR Anantnag; Shri Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam; Shri Anayat Ali Choudhary, SSP Kulgam; Prof. (Dr.) Mohd Abass Shah, Principal GDC Kulgam; senior officials, prominent literary figures, and a large gathering of youth.
