SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday declared November 11, 2025, as a paid holiday in the Assembly Constituencies of 27-Budgam and 77-Nagrota in view of the upcoming by-elections.

According to the official order, the polling day will be observed as a paid holiday for all individuals employed in business, trade, industrial establishments, or other workplaces who are eligible to vote.

The order further clarifies that no deduction or reduction in wages shall be made for employees availing the holiday. Those who are not ordinarily paid for that day will still be entitled to wages as if they had worked.

Employers found violating these provisions may face a fine of up to ₹500, except in cases where an employee’s absence could cause danger or significant loss to the establishment.

The paid holiday has been sanctioned under Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.

This announcement comes in line with notifications issued by the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir, regarding the conduct of the by-elections.
