SRINAGAR: Secretary, Information Technology Department, Dr. Piyush Singla, today chaired a comprehensive review meeting to evaluate the progress of major telecom and digital connectivity projects across Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from Administrative Departments, Divisional Commissioner Offices (Jammu and Srinagar), JPDCL/KPDCL, LSA, and BSNL. Detailed discussions were held on the implementation status and progress of various projects.
The review focused on key initiatives including the 4G Saturation Project, BharatNet Phase-III, Vibrant Villages Programme, and preparatory activities for 5G rollout. Progress under the Samriddh Gram Panchayat (SGP) pilot project—aimed at enhancing broadband access to schools, health institutions, and government offices—was also assessed.
Dr. Singla underscored the importance of inter-departmental coordination for timely execution and resolution of site-specific and administrative issues. He directed BSNL, LSA, and other implementing agencies to strictly adhere to project timelines and address bottlenecks promptly.
Commending the collective efforts of all departments, Dr. Singla emphasized that the J&K Government is committed to bridging the digital divide, ensuring universal telecom coverage, and advancing inclusive digital growth in line with the Digital India Mission.
He also appreciated the deployment of the “Call Before You Dig (CBuD)” application, which enhances the safety of underground telecom infrastructure through improved coordination among executing agencies.
It was informed during the meeting that substantial progress has been made in extending 4G services to remote and previously unconnected areas, ensuring reliable digital communication. The BharatNet project is further laying the foundation for high-speed internet connectivity across Gram Panchayats, strengthening e-governance, education, and healthcare services at the grassroots level.
