Secretary Health reviews status of vacancy referrals, directs timely recruitment process

SRINAGAR: Secretary, Health & Medical Education, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, today chaired a meeting to review the status of referral of Gazetted and Non-Gazetted vacancies to recruiting agencies and to strengthen the overall recruitment process in the department.

The meeting was attended by Principals of all Government Medical Colleges, SKIMS Medical College, Government Dental College, AYUSH Colleges, besides Director Planning, Director Finance, and other officers handling recruitment and establishment matters.

Dr. Shah conducted a detailed college- and department-wise review to identify procedural and structural bottlenecks delaying the referral of vacancies to recruiting agencies. He also assessed the status of Non-Gazetted posts referred to the Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB).

Emphasizing coordination between the Health Department, JKPSC, and JKSSB, the Secretary directed the officers to expedite the recruitment process for all referred posts and ensure timely submission of fresh vacancies. He also stressed the need for early finalisation of recruitment rules and urged close coordination with the ARI & Trainings Department to fast-track the vetting process.

The meeting was informed that the recruitment rules have been consolidated and are presently under review in consultation with institutional heads. Their finalisation is being actively pursued with the concerned departments.

It was further revealed that 105 newly created posts of Assistant Professors — 15 each for the seven new Government Medical Colleges — have been formally referred to the JKPSC for recruitment.

Dr. Shah also noted that the department is addressing challenges arising from the growing patient load and expanding service responsibilities in both teaching and clinical sectors. He assured that efforts are underway to maintain the doctor–patient ratio as per prescribed norms and standards.
