Kampala: Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh on Thursday met Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odongo Jeje Abubakar, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties and broaden cooperation across multiple sectors.

Singh said that India and Uganda share warm relations rooted in historical connections and mutual respect.

In a post on X, he wrote, “Delighted to meet H.E. Mr. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda. India and Uganda enjoy warm relations grounded in historical ties and mutual respect. We held productive discussions on strengthening and expanding our partnership across multiple dimensions—including trade, defence, development cooperation, and capacity building.”

Earlier in the day, while addressing the 19th NAM Mid-Term Ministerial Meeting in Kampala, Singh underlined that terrorism remains a “shared threat” and urged member nations of the Non-Aligned Movement to enhance international cooperation to counter it.

In a veiled reference to Pakistan, Singh said countries that adopt terrorism as a tool of state policy and glorify terrorists must face condemnation.

“Terrorism is a shared threat that can be addressed only through deeper international cooperation. For decades, India has been a victim of barbaric cross-border terrorist attacks, most recently on April 22, 2025, when innocent tourists were slaughtered in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

Calling for a collective stand, the minister added, “The Non-Aligned Movement must display zero tolerance for terrorism. Any sponsorship, support, justification, or cover-up of terrorism will ultimately harm those who engage in it.”

He further emphasized that nations enabling terror hubs or glorifying terrorists deserve strong global censure.

“When terror is declared as state policy, when terror hubs flourish with impunity, and when terrorists are celebrated by state actors, such actions warrant nothing but unequivocal condemnation,” Singh said, adding that nearly every NAM member recognizes the threat posed by terrorism and remains committed to fighting it.
