Secretary Transport Avny Lavasa reviews ongoing works at IDTR Kot Bhalwal
JAMMU: Secretary, Transport Department, Avny Lavasa, today visited the Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) at Kot Bhalwal to review the progress of ongoing developmental works.
The visit was part of the department’s continued efforts to accelerate the creation of key transport infrastructure across the Union Territory.
She was accompanied by Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan; Additional Transport Commissioner Anju Gupta; Superintendent Engineer, PW (R&B) Jammu; Additional Secretary, Transport; Regional Transport Officer, Jammu; Executive Engineers from PWD and Mechanical wings, besides Assistant Engineers from the concerned departments.
At the outset, the Transport Commissioner presented a detailed overview of the IDTR project, outlining major components such as the Administrative Block, Hostel Block, multiple driving test tracks, and other associated infrastructure aimed at promoting professional driver training and research.
During the inspection, the Secretary reviewed the progress of civil works and inspected key training facilities, including driving simulators, classrooms, laboratories, and other modern equipment vital for comprehensive driver education. She also held on-site discussions regarding inter-departmental coordination, quality assurance, and future operational strategies for the institute.
Expressing concern over the delay in completion of certain works, Avny Lavasa directed the Executive Engineers of PWD, Mechanical, and Electrical divisions to expedite execution and ensure all pending tasks are completed within 15 days. She stressed the need to strictly adhere to project timelines and maintain quality standards.
Reaffirming the department’s commitment to improving road safety and driver education, the Secretary emphasized that the Transport Department is dedicated to establishing state-of-the-art training and testing facilities across J&K to reduce accidents and professionalize driver training standards.
