Elista [Russia]: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday paid obeisance to the sacred relics of Lord Buddha, brought from India and enshrined at the Central Temple of the Geden Sheddup Choikorling Monastery — also known as the “Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni” — in Elista, Kalmykia, Russia, according to an official release.

The Lieutenant Governor is leading the Indian delegation tasked with bringing back the holy relics after their week-long exposition in Elista.

Interacting with revered monks, Sinha expressed gratitude for the deep affection shown by the people of Elista and other parts of Russia towards the sacred relics, calling it a rare and heartwarming gesture.

“As you know, the holy relics of the Buddha are regarded as the Buddha himself, and his presence here is a blessing for the people of Kalmykia and the whole of Russia. India takes pride in the timeless teachings of the Buddha — his message of compassion, wisdom, and non-violence is more relevant today than ever. Our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has consistently highlighted the enduring significance of Buddha’s teachings at various international platforms,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

He further emphasized that the teachings of Lord Buddha should be more deeply rooted in societies, especially among the youth.

In a post on X, the office of the Lieutenant Governor wrote, “Paid obeisance to sacred relics of Lord Buddha brought from India & enshrined in the main Buddhist monastery in Elista, known as the Geden Sheddup Choikorling Monastery. I pray to Lord Buddha to bless us all and strengthen the spiritual bond between our peoples.”

The week-long exposition of the holy relics took place in Elista, the capital city of Kalmykia, from October 11 to 18.

In another post, LG Sinha expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for granting him this “sacred opportunity.”
