JAMMU: To manage the festive rush, Northern Railways has introduced a special Mobile Unreserved Ticketing System (M-UTS) service across several stations in the Jammu division, officials said on Sunday.

The initiative aims to ease passenger movement by cutting down long queues at ticket counters and enabling quick mobile ticketing. The service is available at Jammu, Katra, Pathankot Cantonment, Pathankot City, Srinagar, Budgam, and Banihal stations, an official said.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said the facility has been rolled out to handle the increased passenger load during the festive season.
“Passengers can now book tickets conveniently on their phones, saving time and avoiding long lines. This initiative underlines our commitment to faster and more efficient service,” he added.

Meanwhile, a large-scale ticket checking drive was conducted on Saturday to curb ticketless travel. In a single day, 845 ticketless and irregular passengers were penalized, generating fines exceeding ₹5 lakh, Singhal said.

He added that in the last three days, 1,557 violators were caught, resulting in the recovery of ₹11 lakh in fines.
