Satish Sharma Presides Over Diwali Celebrations of J&K Sports Council at Jammu

JAMMU: Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, yesterday presided over the Diwali celebrations organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council at KK Hakku Stadium, Jammu.

The festive event brought together athletes, officials, and members of the sports fraternity in a vibrant gathering that celebrated the spirit of unity, friendship, and well-being through sports.

Commissioner Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Yasha Mudgal; Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul; senior officers from the department, sportspersons, and other members of the sporting community were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Minister Satish Sharma said that sports play a vital role in strengthening social harmony. “Events like this Diwali celebration reflect the true spirit of Jammu and Kashmir, where people come together in harmony and good health. Sports unite us beyond differences and serve as a foundation for peace and progress,” he remarked.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrading sports infrastructure and providing more opportunities for youth engagement. The Minister announced that similar community-based programs will be organized regularly to promote peace, inclusion, and empowerment through sports.

Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Secretary Yasha Mudgal lauded the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders in nurturing an inclusive sports ecosystem across J&K. “The participation of athletes, coaches, and staff in this festival highlights how sports act as a bridge between communities. By strengthening infrastructure and widening access, we are ensuring that every young person experiences the empowerment sports bring,” she said.

In her remarks, Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gul described the sports fraternity as “one big family,” emphasizing that such celebrations reinforce collective commitment toward inclusivity, youth engagement, and community well-being. “Our goal is to make sports a way of life for everyone,” she added.

As part of the festivities, Diwali gifts were distributed among players, children, and employees associated with the sports sector. The celebration highlighted how sports continue to serve as a powerful medium for unity, inclusivity, and shared purpose across Jammu and Kashmir.
