Director Agriculture Jammu reviews departmental activities in Billawar

JAMMU: Director Agriculture Jammu, Anil Gupta, today conducted an extensive tour of Sub-Division Billawar in District Kathua to assess ongoing agricultural initiatives and interact with local farmers.

At the outset, the Director chaired a review meeting at the office of the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, where he took stock of the physical and financial progress of various Central and UT Government-sponsored schemes, including CAPEX, NABARD, and HADP. The meeting was attended by the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Subject Matter Specialists, Agriculture Extension Officers, Junior Agriculture Extension Officers, Agriculture Extension Assistants, and other field staff.

During the field visit, the Director inspected the Mushroom Shed of Kartar Chand, a progressive farmer from Bhaddu Billawar, and reviewed the on-ground cultivation practices. He lauded the farmer’s efforts and emphasized promoting mushroom cultivation as a profitable enterprise and a means of generating rural employment.

The Director also visited the Toria crop field of Amir Singh in Bhaddu Billawar, where 12 kanals of land have been brought under oilseed cultivation. He appreciated the farmer’s initiative towards crop diversification and underlined the significance of timely agronomic practices, integrated nutrient management, and the use of quality seeds to boost productivity.

Anil Gupta urged the officers to work in close coordination with the farming community to ensure effective implementation of departmental schemes at the grassroots level. He encouraged farmers to take advantage of government initiatives and adopt modern, scientific methods for higher yields and better income.
