Kampala: At least 63 people lost their lives in a multi-vehicle collision on a highway in western Uganda, police said on Wednesday.

The tragic accident occurred shortly after midnight local time (2100 GMT Tuesday) on the highway leading to Gulu, a major city in northern Uganda.

Fatal road accidents are frequent in the country, with authorities often attributing them to speeding and the poor condition of narrow roads.
