Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Waheed Parra on Monday said the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly did not take up his resolution seeking the restoration of the Waqf Board and the transfer of its custodianship to the Muttahid-e-Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU).

In a post on X, Parra said the resolution was dropped during the Assembly ballot and that the PDP would formally request Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather to exercise his discretion to include it in the House’s legislative business.

Calling the Waqf Board a sensitive, faith-linked institution, Parra stressed that the matter deserves discussion in the legislature. He urged that the custodianship of the board be restored to the local religious leadership under Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
