Srinagar: The Congress on Thursday announced that its six MLAs will back the National Conference (NC) candidates in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections for four seats in Jammu and Kashmir.
The party said it has chosen to set aside its differences with the ruling NC for now.
In a letter to NC president Farooq Abdullah, Pradesh Congress Committee chief Tariq Hamid Karra confirmed the decision to extend full support to NC candidates in the polls scheduled for Friday.
The Congress’ move came just hours after the PDP made a similar commitment.
While the NC is expected to comfortably win three of the four seats, these latest developments have intensified the contest for the fourth seat.
