Kurnool: A Hyderabad-bound private bus caught fire near Chinnatekur in Kurnool district on Friday after colliding with a two-wheeler, killing 20 people, police said.
The motorcyclist was among those who lost their lives in the accident.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the bus, carrying around 40 passengers, caught fire after the motorcycle collided with it and was dragged underneath. The bike’s open fuel cap is believed to have triggered the blaze.
“Kurnool Range DIG Koya Praveen said that 19 passengers, including two children and two drivers, managed to survive the incident,” officials reported.
Police added that the bus door jammed due to a short circuit, trapping passengers inside as the vehicle was engulfed in flames within minutes. Most of the survivors were between 25 and 35 years old, they said.
