Srinagar: Peoples Conference chief Sajad Lone on Friday termed the Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir a “fixed match” between the ruling National Conference (NC) and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The National Conference won three of the four Rajya Sabha seats, while the BJP bagged one.
“So the BJP wins the fourth seat. As predicted — a fixed match. Axis of evil — NC and BJP,” Lone wrote in a post on X.
Lone, who represents the Handwara assembly segment in north Kashmir, said he had abstained from voting in the election.
“Thank God I abstained. Imagine my plight otherwise. Now it’s mathematically proven that it was a fixed match,” he said.
Lone questioned the NC’s voting pattern, alleging irregularities. “Why did the NC poll extra votes for candidate three? They didn’t need to. They polled 31 votes when 28 or 29 would have sufficed, as the BJP was contesting for the fourth seat. Who cross-voted? Whose votes were rejected? Who was hand in glove?” he asked.
The elections for the four Rajya Sabha seats were conducted through three separate notifications.
In the first, NC’s Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan defeated BJP’s Ali Mohammad Mir. For the second seat, NC’s Sajjad Kitchloo beat BJP’s Rakesh Mahajan.
Under the third notification, two seats were contested — NC’s G.S. (Shammi) Oberoi won one, while the BJP’s J&K unit chief Sat Sharma triumphed over NC spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar to claim the fourth.
