POONCH: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Poonch, Ashok Kumar Sharma, today chaired a review meeting of the Rural Development Department (RDD) to assess the progress of ongoing developmental works and the implementation of flagship schemes across the district.

During the meeting, the DDC reviewed the performance of five blocks — Poonch, NSSB, Sathra, Mandi, and Loran. Officers presented detailed block-wise reports on physical and financial achievements under key RDD initiatives, including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), and MGNREGA.

The DDC directed officers to accelerate the pace of works under MGNREGA, ensure timely tendering and allotment, and complete projects within stipulated timelines while maintaining quality standards. Block Development Officers (BDOs) of underperforming blocks were instructed to intensify efforts to achieve their respective targets.

The Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) and Assistant Commissioner Panchayat (ACP) were asked to conduct regular physical inspections in low-performing areas to ensure on-ground progress and accountability.

Reviewing the Swachh Bharat Mission, the DDC directed BDOs to penalize shopkeepers using banned polythene and to intensify cleanliness and sanitation drives across all blocks.

The DDC further instructed all field functionaries — including Gram Rozgar Sevaks (GRS), Panchayat Secretaries, and Technical Assistants — to complete estimation of pending works within 10 days and ensure timely physical completion of all ongoing projects.

The ACD and BDOs were directed to finish all old and pending works within a week and submit compliance reports to the DC office. They were also asked to complete e-KYC of job card holders by October 31 and finalize the MGNREGA labour budget at the earliest.

The Executive Engineer (REW) was instructed to expedite tendering and allotment processes to initiate works before the onset of winter.

Additionally, the DDC directed Tehsildars and BDOs to verify defaulter PMAY beneficiaries and caution them against further delays in house construction.
