BARAMULLA: In a commendable initiative to raise awareness about breast cancer across Kashmir, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, today organized Pinkayathon 25 — the Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Mega Event.
The event aimed to educate students, doctors, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, and the broader healthcare fraternity on the importance of early detection and prevention of breast cancer.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Principal GMC Baramulla, Prof. Dr. Majid Jahangir, in the presence of the Medical Superintendent, Registrar Academics, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and other senior officials.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from Heads of Departments, faculty members, administrative staff, nursing personnel, the District Health Officer, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, and students — reflecting a shared commitment to women’s health and wellbeing.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. Majid Jahangir underscored the crucial role of healthcare professionals in community-level awareness, encouraging regular self-examinations and timely screenings for early detection of breast cancer.
The technical sessions featured expert discussions on breast cancer pathology, diagnostic methods, and the role of mammography in early diagnosis and treatment planning.
The event concluded with the formation of a symbolic human pink ribbon followed by a walkathon, expressing solidarity and collective resolve in the fight against breast cancer.
