CM Omar Abdullah Inaugurates Noor Jahan Bridge, Reaffirms Commitment to Development and Statehood Restoration
SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday inaugurated the 3×43-metre PSC Girder Double Lane Noor Jahan Bridge at Qamarwari, constructed over the River Jhelum to ease traffic congestion and enhance connectivity between Qamarwari and Noorbagh, providing a crucial link to Nallahmar Road.
Built at a cost of ₹12.77 crore, the bridge represents a significant stride toward upgrading Srinagar’s road infrastructure and ensuring smoother traffic flow, especially in the densely populated areas of Qamarwari and its adjoining localities.
Addressing a large public gathering after the inauguration, the Chief Minister said, “This bridge’s foundation was laid by me, and after 11 years, our government has returned to complete it and dedicate it to the people.”

He emphasized that despite challenges, his government remains focused on “development, dignity, and peace” in Jammu and Kashmir. “We are committed to fulfilling our promises and steering J&K on the path of progress and prosperity,” he asserted.
Reiterating his call for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, the Chief Minister said that the commitment had been made repeatedly by the Central Government’s leadership. “People participated enthusiastically in last year’s elections because statehood was promised to them after the polls. There is no political party that hasn’t spoken in favour of its restoration,” he remarked.
Highlighting his government’s focus on sustainable and efficient transport infrastructure, Omar Abdullah said the administration is determined to meet the needs of Srinagar’s expanding urban population. “All our promises will be fulfilled. After completing our term, we will let our work speak for itself when people judge us after five years,” he said.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Eidgah Mubarak Gul, MLA Central Shalteng Tariq Hameed Karra, and several senior officials from concerned departments were present at the inauguration.
The Noor Jahan Bridge is expected to significantly decongest traffic bottlenecks, improve accessibility for commuters and traders, and facilitate smoother movement for residents in one of Srinagar’s busiest corridors.
