Sakeena Itoo inaugurates two-day National Conference-cum-Workshop ‘Kashmir Endogyn 2025’ at GMC Srinagar
SRINAGAR: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, on Friday inaugurated the two-day National Conference-cum-Workshop “Kashmir Endogyn 2025” at Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar. The event has been organized by the Postgraduate Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Addressing a distinguished gathering of healthcare professionals, medical students, and policymakers, the Minister lauded GMC Srinagar for its commitment to advancing women’s wellness through education, research, and clinical excellence. She emphasized that women’s health should be treated as a societal priority rather than a sectoral issue. “Empowering women through better healthcare access and education strengthens families, communities, and the nation at large,” she said.


Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, commended the department for creating an academic platform that seamlessly integrates evidence-based medicine with practical training.
Principal and Dean, GMC Srinagar, Dr. Iffat Hassan Shah, highlighted the importance of technology and continuous skill enhancement in modern gynaecologic practice. She noted that minimally invasive surgery, robotic laparoscopy, and advanced reproductive techniques are revolutionizing women’s healthcare.
Organizing Chairperson and Head of Department, Dr. Syed Masuma Rizvi, outlined the objectives of the conference, focusing on updates in Endometriosis, Infertility, Urogynecology, and Menopausal Health. She stated that such academic interactions foster collaboration and raise the standards of healthcare delivery.
Administrator, Associated Hospitals, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, and Medical Superintendent, LD Hospital, Dr. Muzaffar Jan, also extended their appreciation and reaffirmed their support for GMC Srinagar’s academic and clinical initiatives.
The first day of the conference featured scientific sessions on laparoscopic management of endometriosis, assisted reproductive technologies, urogynecologic reconstructive surgery, and menopause management, offering participants valuable insights into contemporary best practices.
Eminent experts including Dr. Seema Hakim and Dr. Shaheen Anjum from Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. (Dr.) Shweta Mittal Gupta from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, Dr. Vyjayanthi from KIMS Hyderabad, and noted laparoscopic surgeon Dr. Ajay Agarwal delivered expert talks showcasing new techniques and clinical innovations.
The second day will include a hands-on workshop on advanced laparoscopic and reproductive procedures, aimed at equipping young doctors and trainees with technical expertise, clinical confidence, and direct mentorship from national experts.
On the occasion, the Minister also felicitated former Heads of the Department, Dr. Bilques Jameela and Dr. Shahida Mir, for their distinguished contributions to women’s health and medical education.
